    A few interesting Google Insights

If you haven't used Google Insights for Search, check it out NOW! It provides tons of detailed data on search terms, like the geographic distribution, seasonality, and current trends. In an effort to demonstrate just how powerful this new tool is, I'm going to go through a few insights that I enjoy:
    • Cloud Computing
There's no surprise on Cloud computing, microsoft, ibm, and hp are rising fast. I'm going to be watching Ibm -- exciting announcement earlier today that they're building 12 new datacenters for cloud computing!

    • NoteBook and Macbook Pro
In notebook computers, lenovo is rising BIG time. My guts telling me it probably has something to do with being an Olympic sponsor? Also, lots of people are buying used MacBook pros. Wonder how that will effect sales? As you can see, lots of good questions arise from insights that require further analysis.

    • Wine and Beer
Pleasantly surprised to see wine library rising.
    • Barack Obama and John McCain
And, given that little Presidential election that's coming up, no analysis would be complete unless we insight both candidates. Each has obviously spiked, significantly, since becoming the presumptuous nominees for the Democratic and Republican parties, respectively. At this point, it appears like both are being searched relatively equally.
I recommend playing around with insights for 30 to 45 minutes, typing in keywords related to your business.

    Next steps:
1.) Optimize meta and title tags to account for "Rising searches" in the verticals you're competing in.
2.) Adjust PPC campaigns as needed.
3.) Create additional content around rising searches
4.) Possibly register additional domains, both for rising searches and significant countries. For example, if >25% of your traffic is coming from France, it might be time to register a .fr domain.

Intelligent 404 Pages -- Widget on Google Webmaster Console

Have you ever wanted to offer useful 404 error pages for your site visitors? It's frustrating when you hit a 404 page and there's NOTHING of value on it. That's a bad user experience, to say the least, and it'll likely cause visitors to leave your site fast.

It's pretty simple to add intelligent 404 pages to your sites, complete with suggestions that take into account typos, misspellings, and related content.

    Check out the google widget:

The 'Mindless Fans' of Barack Obama

Just joined Barack's email list. Check out the snippet, below, from one of the emails I've received. Loving it.

"While supporters like you are out knocking on doors, registering new voters, and organizing in your local communities, our opponents are not even trying to match your efforts. Instead, they're spending millions to spread the smear that Barack is just a "celebrity" and that our grassroots movement is just a bunch of mindless fans.

So who is John McCain really attacking? Real people like Brandon, a carpenter from McCall, ID. Stephanie, a registered nurse from Phoenix, AZ. And Pamela, a retired teacher from Franklin, WV. "

And cnn already is reporting on it: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/11/obama-camp-says-their-donors-portrayed-as-mindless-fans/

Wine Library Tv + Jim Cramer.

I never realized Wine Library TV was becoming such a hit. I absolutely love this show.

A great point from the show: should we be worrisome of brands that don't get new media? Is it better to shy away from companies that don't get twitter, facebook, youtube, just to name a few web 2.0 companies?
